Good Tuesday! With the upcoming sprout contest coming, I spent some time going through the 1st half of our design team galleries. I found some great projects using sprouts in different ways that I felt should be reposted for some great inspiration. Something just to get your juices flowing. :)

Cindy cropped down her pictures and placed them in the centers of the square sprouts for cute frames.

Family Fridge Magnets by Aly Dosdall

Aly did similarly added her families photos to the center of the circle sprouts to create beautiful magnets for her kitchen.

Diaper Cards by Aly Dosdall

Aly layered sprouts on scallop circle patterned paper punch outs to create a perfect embellishment for her diaper cards.

Where in the World by Aly Dosdall

For this layout Aly used different sprouts to document the different locations she and her family have travelled.

I love how Aly created a photo and journaling collage that runs across her layout. 

Eggcellent Job by Becky Williams

Becky stamped on the top sprout and then layered it with another larger sprout for an easy and quick embellishment for her card.

 
Bloom & Grow by Juliana Michaels

Juliana added journaling sprouts to her layout for more than documenting the details. She created a decorative element to the background of her layout with the multiple sprouts.

Minty Sweet Sprouts by Jenifer Harkin

Jenifer dressed up some sweet peppermint patties with a stamped sprout and a few of the felt bean seeds. Who wouldn't appreciate these?

Hopefully that will help get your brain working on some great ways to play with sprouts. The contest will be here before you know it. Consider this a jump start. ;)

Free For All Friday....

It's Friday and YAY to that!  It's been a long week here at Jillibean Soup!  I think I've lost my mind! ;)

Anyhow, it's Free for All Friday so I wanted to tell you about some things that are going on around here! 

As you know, we've got our Millionth Sprout Celebration going on right now.  We've started shipping the new sprouts and yes, 3 of those packages have "golden" sprouts in them!!!!  If you purchase one of the lucky "golden" sprout packages you win $100 of Jillibean product!  And (get this), the store that you purchased your winning sprout from wins $300 of Jillibean product!   

Also, we will announce a Sprout Project Contest next Friday.  What's this, you ask?  Well, we want to see how innovative you can be!  What's the coolest way to use the Jillibean Journaling Sprouts?  The contest will run for 4 weeks so you'll have plenty of time to visit your favorite retailer and pick up some of the new sprouts (you do not need to use new sprouts for the contest entries). 

Here are a couple of older (but favorite) sprout projects...

Me Layout -the sprouts are layered with foam dots and look more like flowers.  The journaling is printed on patterned paper and adhered on top of the sprouts.

Snowman card - sprouts were used to make the snowman's body.
 

 

Leah Layout - again the sprouts are layered to add dimension to the layout.  The large sprout has the title on it.

Birdie gift card holder - the sprout was used as a "tag".  
 

We'll have plenty of sprout projects to share on the blog in the next couple of months as well as a tutorial or two for different uses of the sprouts.

Good Wednesday morning! We are back in full Back to School swing here. Where did the summer go?! My kids went back yesterday and we've started sports and Scouts and all the stuff that goes along with it. I'm hoping to fit in a bit more scrapping during the day now. Tutorial on Tuesday! -- Cool Beans Bracelet

We had many great comments on the Canvas Flower necklace that was hanging in our booth at CHA and then design team member Aly Dosdall offered to do a tutorial using the Cool Beans buttons and the Canvas flowers. Perfect timing!

Cool Beans Bracelet tutorial by Aly Dosdall

Using scrapbooking supplies to make jewelry is a popular and fun trend right now.  Here’s a simple tutorial for making a button bracelet using cool beans, twine, and canvas flowers:

Gather the following supplies:

8-10 small cool beans in your 2 favorite colors
2 identical small canvas flowers
1 length of brown/neutral twine (enough to fit around your wrist with 2-3 inches of extra on each end)
a twist barrel jewelry closure
a 1/8 inch hole punch

Remove the adhesive from the backs of the 2 canvas flowers and adhere them together (back sides facing each other) using craft glue.  Place one of the buttons in the center on top of the flowers , and lightly mark where the holes are with a pen or pencil.  Using your 1/8 inch hole punch, punch out the 2 holes you marked.

Begin threading the twine through your buttons entering and exiting the holes from the bottom of the button.  Try threading 3 or 4 buttons on either side with the flowers at the center.  Make sure to thread the flowers with a button on top as shown in the photo below. 

As you thread the buttons, make sure they overlap each other as much as possible.  That way when you wear the bracelet none of the twine between the buttons will show.  When you think you have enough buttons threaded, check by measuring around your wrist.  Add or subtract buttons as needed until you get a good fit.  Once you’re done threading buttons, if the buttons slip easily along the twine tie a single knot at each end to hold the last button in place (make sure the knot is under the button so it isn’t visible).  Then attach your twist barrel jewelry closure by tying the ends of the twine to each piece of the closure using a double knot.  Trim the excess twine.

We held our first Millionth Sprout Giveaway at CHA.  For each $100 retailers spent, one sprout (with their name) was entered into the sprout bucket for the raffle.  Lucky winner - Paper Niche was picked on the last day!

CHA-Summer Recap from Jill

Happy Friday from the Big Bean ;)

It's my time to give you my take on the show. I'm sorry if it feels like you've seen these pics before (at the last CHA show).  Set-up is fun for people to see if you haven't seen them before...it may not be fun for those that have been following the Bean Talk blog since it began.  We did, however, change it up quite a bit this time.  We threw in a screen door, a white shelving unit, mixed up the frames, found a little white table for the corner and lots of other eclectic goodies.  It's funny, the more I decorate the booth "shabby-chic", the more that look comes into my house. ;)

WARNING...looooooooong post.  Make sure you grab your cup of coffee before you start reading.

Here we go...

Chicago from Kimber's new Droid.  LOVE Chicago!  I used to live in Rockford and we made many trips to Schaumburg to shop and many trips into the city.  I also love living close enough to drive to CHA! 

Ahhh, the lovely blue and white curtains....let's hide them.

How about if we put up some walls and corrugated tin? 

And some trim?

Kimber decided to hold up some crates while the walls were going up.

Look at all that stuff!  Yeah, that's some silly girl dancing behind the crates - Miss Summer!

 
Thank goodness hubby always comes for set-up.  We were winging it a bit with some of the new decor.  Hubby was hanging new screws for all the new stuff.  Good thing he has patience.  I don't think I had him change more than two pieces.

The booth is starting to take shape.  It looks quite a bit different with plain cork frames.  See those frames inside the white shelving unit?  They were one of the first things I placed.  I can't show them to you because they were picked up by a publication.  Juliana did a great job with them!

More product goes up!  My least favorite job....hanging the papers on the cork boards.  I'm very thankful that Kimber and Summer don't mind doing it.

The first day for set-up went great so we celebrated with Giordano's stuffed pizza!  YUM!   

 

Jen joined us for set-up Day 2.  She's been with me for all 4 shows and this was her first set-up.  Here she is prepping all the make n' take stuff...Jen is our official Make n' Take Queen!

Stephenie Hamen (from Fiskars) stopped by the booth on Day 2 to do make n' takes.  She also left us with some new tools and punches!  I LOVE my punches!!!!  Don't ask why I'm making a crazy face at the camera.

Summer's very cool "Mad Scientist" layout.

Those Soup Staples just look yummy.  I think we should add more colors - don't you?  Becky's layout does a great job of displaying all the colors!

Ahhh, the mini-hangers.  We used these to display half-sheets of the sale items.  We had lots of people asking if we were selling them. 

 
Finally, the last pic!  This is Jarred.  He was our server at Gibson's on our post-show celebration evening.  That is one huge dessert.  I can't even remember what it was - turtle something pie?  Jarred was the best server ever!  He even bought dessert for us!
