Soup Spotting 5.30.12

Good morning everyone!  Ok, I had slight trauma this weekend.  While preparing to go to a water park, I realized when putting on my 'Miracle Swimsuit'....you know the one that is suppose to make you look two sizes smaller (but, not really), I had a big whole in the backside area:(  It's time to go swimsuit shopping, which I DREAD and see as absolute torture.  Needless to say, I didn't participate in water activities:)  So, I had some 'soup spotting therapy!'

Guest Designer Pam Brown

Happy Tuesday everyone!  It's been a busy, busy time for everyone...graduations, BBQ's, remembering our wounded and fallen soldiers, ending school years.  On a personal note, my youngest graduated from preschool and will be heading off to kindergarten in the fall.  Most memorable moment, "Momma, I can't wear that dress because it shows my boobies!"  But, this is ironic since she had already painted her lips with the brightest red lipstick she could find:)  Can't wait for the teenage years!

Today, we are back with Guest Designer Pam Brown.  Pam's favorite scrappy organizational tip is to purge often.  Sometimes having too much stuff is overwhelming.  Every three to four months, she goes through her stash and fills a box with stuff she hasn't used or isn't planning on using in the future.  Then, she does a giveaway or gives it to her daughter's school.  Not having so much stuff makes it easier to stay organized!

And, these are my favorite questions that are asked of the Guest Designers:)  Her favorite Jillibean Soup is  Sweet & Sour?  Watermelon Gazpacho?  Blossom Soup?  Nope, she can't pick just one!  Her favorite soup to eat is corn chowder, especially during the summer when her father-in-law brings them fresh corn!  Here's what else Pam has to share with us today...

Special Friday Tutorial!

Happy Friday!  I've got a special treat!

We've had so many people ask about these flowers!  They're actually a type of Origami flowers called Kusudama.  When I attended the last consumer show in Michigan, everyone was asking if we sold these in a kit and told them to keep watching the blog for a tutorial!  Well, here it is!  Thank you to DT member Stephanie Klauck who put this together!!  Oh, and did I mention...  there's a video at the end too!

 Jillibean Soup Folded Paper Flower Tutorial

These flowers are so fun and make great home décor accents. They are super easy to make and the ability to mix and match the designs and colours gives you endless design possibilities.

To create these flowers just follow the easy steps below:

 

Cut out 5 squares of patterned paper all the same size. Each of the squares will make one petal for the flower. You can definitely do more or less petals if you prefer… I just find I like the look of a 5 petal flower. You can vary the sizes of the flowers by using different sized squares for each flower. I generally like to use 4”, 5” and 6” squares for my flowers.

 

 Starting with one of the squares, do the following steps. Fold the square in half diagonally.

 

 Fold up both sides of the now triangle shape so that they meet in the middle.

 

Flatten both of the triangle sides. (stand them up and push down on the center crease until it lays flat). 

Fold down the tops of the triangles and tuck then inside the triangle shape (you should end up with a flat top that can be creased down). Then fold the side triangle pieces in half and crease.

Fold the two sides of the flower in and glue together with a hot glue gun. Create as many of these as you would like in your flower and then glue all petals together.
