Happy New Year Jillibean Soup followers! Today, I would love to share with you the steps to create this pet themed mini album using some brand new Jillibean products. The new Fur Fusion collection is especially made for our furry friends, so you can decide on a dog or cat theme. I created this album for my daughter and her dog Chloey. However, by simply switching from dog paper/embellishments to the cat ones offered in this same collection you can alter this album easily into cat theme. Here are the pages beginning with the front and back covers:
So the first step was to select the photos 12 for the album pages. I added 6 photos cut down to 3.75 in. x 6 in.for the heart pockets. The ten for the pages were cut down to 4”x4”. Some of those will get trimmed down a bit more to fit the template later.
For this album I used a Heidi Swapp Chipboard Album with three rings. I like the size of it-not too small and not too big. I selected the papers for the front and back covers outside and inside. Next, I traced around the chipboard covers and cut out the patterned paper to use on the front and back cover. I used the iCraft Supertape (red strip adhesive) to adhere the covers for extra durability. I added the outside front of the cover and then paused to hole punch the three holes back in. Then, I added the paper for the inside of the front cover and hole punched it again. Repeat that process for the back covers so that you don’t lose the three punched holes.
To create the cover, you will need some of the new Alpha Tiles in white, a 4 in. x 4 in. photo, some of the Fur Fusion papers and the Bite Size Bit. The Alpha Tiles come in blue, kraft and vellum as well-so choose your favorite. Using my sewing machine, I stitched the multi-color border strip down the center then added it to the left side of cover adhering with the red strip adhesive. Find the letters for your pets name in the Alpha Tile pack and add the green heart paper as a backer. Adhere them to the page as shown with every other letter popped up with 3D foam dots. Then embellish however you like. I chose to add some Pea Pod Parts and coordinating stickers with a few wood veneers to finish it off.
The inner pages background mats measure 7 ¼ in. x 7 ¾ in. In an effort to simplify the process, I eliminated that need for hole punching by leaving the left edge clear of patterned paper. So just choose papers that coordinate well with the corresponding pages. You will need a total of 10 pages cut. Cut them and adhere to the blank pages as shown.
To keep the album layout design simple, I created a template approach using four repeating components.
Here are the components and their measurements:
1) Photo: 4 in. x 4 in. (Quantity I used= 12 photos)
2) Tag, Bite Size Bit or Mini Placemat: Tag: 2.5 in. x 4 in. (Qty. I used=5), Bite Size Bits: 3 in. x 4 in. (Qty. I used=7); Mini Placemats: 3 in. x 4 in. (Qty. I used=3)
3) Border strip: .75 in. x 6.5 in. (Qty. I used=12) patterned paper
4) Mat: 7 in. x 5.25 in. (Qty I used= 12) plain color cardstock
So decide on your coordinating papers and cut the pieces above. Then it is as simple as adhering each pages template together. I try to lay items out so that I can see how they match the corresponding page for a nice match. You can also play around with the template as I did. You can move where the photo by adhering, right or left. You can also move the border strip from the bottom to the top or have one page with top border strip and the other with bottom strip. I also alternated between tags for journaling and bite size bits or mini placemats.
Next is the really fun part, embellishments! The Fur Fusion collection has some great stickers, pea pod parts and my favorite wood veneers. Reference the photos to see what ones I chose, but don’t limit yourself- the possibilities are endless so have some fun and play with what you have. I also added two of the white heart favor bags to allow for more photos to be added into as pockets.
I also added two of the white heart favor bags to allow for more photos to be added into as pockets. To add them into the album I cut border strips measuring 1 in. x 5.25 in. I added red strip adhesive to the back of border strip and attached to the favor bag. Then I hole punched the other side of the border strip as shown with two hole punches. This allowed for extra photos to be added into the album, they did need trimmed down to 3.75 in. x 6 in.
