SHREK | Ogres are like onions. Onions have layers. Ogres have layers. Onions have layers. You get it? We both have layers.
DONKEY | Oh, you both have LAYERS. Oh. You know, not everybody like onions. What about cake? Everybody loves cake!
I don't know how many times I've watched the Shrek movie but I just love the scene where Shrek and Donkey talk about ogres being like onions. Hi it's Melinda with you today and I'm going to show you how to put together a layout using... you guessed it... layers!
First things first... you need to do a rough sketch of how you want your picture and layout to look so you can work out what you are going to put on each layer. I can't live without my sketches and draw up designs before I start any project.
Next step is to to choose all your patterned papers and stack them in order of appearance on the layout ie. front front to back. Taking the first sheet and using an easily erasable pencil mark out your shape and add any features for that layer. I have added in a rock on my first layer.
Take your second sheet of paper and position it underneath your pre-cut piece and trace lightly trace around all the elements then add in your next set of elements for that particular layer and cut them out.
I like to leave a 5mm border around the edge of each layer to give a framed appearance to my picture.
I decided to create the sun across several layers so traced out the circle and some of the rays on the back layer and then continued the rays onto the top layer which required a piece of yellow patterned paper under both layers.
Final steps require you to gently erase all pencil markings and then position your layers in place to make sure everything is where it should be.
TIP | Place foam pop dots on the back of a couple of layers (not every layer or it will be too bulky) to give dimension to your picture. You only need to put the dots around the edge of the cut-out so that it has the raised appearance, the remainder of your paper can simply have double sided tape.

I am blown away! I love all the wonderful elements you included and that you were so nice to share how you went about creating this! The mushrooms and fox add so much fun to this LO! They go perfect with the sweet little man enjoying his apple! Thanks so much for sharing and delighting!
