My name is Karyn Schultz and I live on a farm in the Adelaide Hills in Australia. I'm a mum to 2 gorgeous girls (11 and 18) and have an amazing husband who lovingly supports my crafting obsession lol.

I love scrapbooking, card making, art journalling, travellers notebooks, and Project Life. Crafting allows me to be creative and lets me escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I've been crafting my whole life and started scrapbooking and cardmaking about 17 years ago after my first daughter was born. I love to capture precious family memories on my scrapbook pages and I love watching my family look through the albums and see their photos and read the journaling. I also love the social aspect of meeting people in online craft groups and teaching - I've created many great friendships this way!

My style is modern, relatively clean and simple, but with a mixed media edge. Most of my work includes a white background that is painted with watercolours/paints/sprays/inks etc. My style is constantly evolving and I love trying new techniques and using new products.

Designer Tip:  Choose a limited color palate from the collection to create completely different looks from the one collection. Here I've limited it to yellow, black and grey with a splash of olive green for added pop.

Designer Tip:  When you are creating cards line the corresponding envelope with coordinating paper. I've just cut out a piece of patterned paper to fit the envelope and adhered it to the inside.

Designer Tip:  Making gift tags is a great way to use up leftover papers and embellishments. Just cut out tag shapes from the patterned paper and layer a variety of papers and embellishments. This can be used as a gift tag or adhered to a scrapbook page or other project.

Designer Tip:  Mini-books are cute off the page projects that are great as gifts or just fun to keep. This one measures 3"x3". I've just filled this one with embellishments but I often add photos from a specific event, or inspirational quotes.

Hello everyone! My name is Lorimar Ortega, and I'm beyond excited to have been selected as Jillibean Soup's Guest Designer this month. I live (was born and raised here, too!) in Puerto Rico with my husband and 2 toddler sons. I began scrapbooking about 8 years ago, but only recently did I venture out to sharing my layouts on social media. Currently, I design layout kits for a local store, and I’m part of the Shimmerz Design Team. What I love about scrapbooking is that you can document your life and do so in a creative manner. I made 5 layouts using the Spoonful of Soul collection.

I love using dark backgrounds as my bases because they just make everything 'pop' off the page. The cardstock I used is Mysterious Teal by Bazzill. After selecting, trimming and distressing the pieces of patterned paper, I placed them on the base as a means of working out the design. I marked where the papers were going to be, removed them and added splatters of white acrylic paint and Shimmerz Cheeky Pink. Then I stamped 3 circles with embossing ink near where I'd be placing my clusters, poured white embossing powder and set it with a heat gun. While everything dried, I added some crazy lines along the base's border with a white gel pen. After placing the patterned paper, I began embellishing. To add an extra level of texture and dimension, I stamped some images on the black tag and used embossing ink in Nuvo Crystal. Finally, I added my picture on 3D tape and scattered some enamel shapes.

Sometimes, simple and clean is the way to go, and that's exactly what I did here. My usual style is to add lots of elements within my clusters, but for this one, I dialed it back. I selected Beeswax by Bazzill as my base and kept the sizes of patterned paper on the small side with just a few layers. Placed my title above the pictures, with a cluster of embellishments right beside it and another one near the lower left-hand corner. Added another cluster on the right-hand side of the layout as a means of expanding and balancing things out. Finished off the layout with splatters of Shimmerz Coal.

Black is such a strong color, but it adds such a dramatic element to any project! I used Raven by Bazzill as my base and added lots of splatters of white acrylic paint. Once dry, I added 3 pieces of torn patterned paper to the left side of the layout and placed my picture on pop dots right in the center. Chose 'Wonderful Us' as my title and painted it over with white acrylic paint to make it stand out against the black cardstock. I then clustered my embellishments around the picture, added a border of fussy-cut houses at the bottom of the picture, and filled the flower clusters with extra fussy cut flowers. Finished off the layout with splatters of Shimmerz Marigold.

From time to time, I like to make layouts which showcase all the pretty patterned paper within a collection; this is one of them! I selected Lemonade by Bazzill as my base and added brushstrokes of dark gray acrylic paint just to give the overall layout an extra pop of mixed media. I cut up a few pieces of patterned paper, paired them with scraps left over from the previous layouts, distressed all the edges, and added them unto the base in a horizontal and layered manner. Used the vellum tag 'Love' as part of my title and added 'My Tribe' using the foam stickers. Rather than creating 3 distinct embellishment clusters, I focused them around the title and picture. To finish it off, I added 'Life is better with friends' stamped clusters (using black archival ink), and splashes of Shimmerz Cheeky Pink.

For my final layout, I decided to take a stroll down Mixed Media Avenue. I selected Kraft by Bazzill as my base and covered it with clear gesso. Visually dividing my background into 4 quadrants, I added splotches of Shimmerz in Boogie Boarin' Blue, Peacock's Plume and Meet Me @ Sunset. While my base dried, I began trimming scraps of paper into different widths and lengths, and lightly distressed them. As soon as the base was dry, I began adding the strips in a centered fashion, leaving roughly ¼ inch gap between them. Added my picture at an angle towards the center right-hand side and clustered floral die cuts around it. For my title, I once again used a vellum tag (Hello) and layered a Love die cut on top of it with pop dots. Added some other embellishments from the collection. Sprinkled some phrases stickers over by the strips of paper and used them as my journaling.

Hi, my name is Michelle Gallant and I live in NB Canada with my 2 kids.

I started scrapbooking about 12 years ago.   went to a class with a friend and fell in love with scrapbooking instantly. I've gone through many styles over the years, but overall my style is layered and detailed.   I love to fussy cut and use cut files.  I recently bought a sewing machine and it's the best thing I have ever bought!  I'm a busy hockey mom, so I don't always have a lot of free time.   I like to scrap late at night, good thing I'm the type that doesn't need a lot of sleep! :)

Hi everyone! My name is Yvette Weber and I am thrilled to be a guest designer here today at Jillibean Soup. I live in the states with my husband and 13 year old son. Born and grew up in Grenada in the Caribbean, and moved to America when I was 15 with my family. I started scrapbooking in 2013 to document our family memories, after my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I fell in love with the idea of using beautiful pattern papers, stickers and embellishments to document the stories behind my family photos. I created four 12x12 layouts and a couple of cards with the beautiful Spoonful of Soul collection. I hope you like them.

My idea was to have a big title for this page, so I enlarged the Love You Like Crazy cut file from Jillibean Soup and chose to used the Free Spirit patterned paper for this. To give it more dimension, I used foam tape to adhere the title down. To the right side, I added a few die-cut diamonds in various sizes and patterns. I also added a strip of the Free Spirit patterned paper across the middle of the layout, a few Pea Pod Parts from the Spoonful of Soul collection, my journaling and this layout is finish.

Hello!  My name is Nanci Ann Carlton and I am from a little town called Melba, Idaho.  I am a stay at home mom of 5, three girls and two boys.  I am married to my best friend and biggest supporter, who allows me to follow my passion and love for creativity.  I was first introduced to card making over 20 years ago through my mom, in which turned into me becoming an avid scrapbooker and card maker! 

I recently lost my mom unexpectedly and have found that creating has become much, much more meaningful to me.  It has always been important but now I create with more passion.  I would also have to say that it is therapeutic.  I have a deeper level of compassion towards individuals.  Everyone is fighting a battle.  Some may be silently and others may lay it all out there for others to hear.  But what I’ve learned is that everyone needs kindness in their life, everyone deserves to feel loved, to feel special and most importantly, that they are not alone.  I have learned a lot in these last few months of grieving.  One being the importance of taking pictures, printing those pictures and documenting those memories because someday that is all you will have left.  

I have designed & created class kits for a local scrapbook store for a few years and then decided to venture out on my own, where I became the owner and designer for Premier Scrapbook Designs.  This has been a dream come true and I have thoroughly enjoyed creating kits for individuals all over the country.  I specialize in both card and scrapbooking kits and now since losing my mom I have a much deeper desire to share my love of everything crafty to those who are in need of some sunshine in their life due to the ups and downs of this crazy life we are all experiencing.

Paper crafting has evolved into so much more than just making cards and scrapbooking.  It has become a household creative outlet for many with endless artistic freedom to express your unique self. Paper crafting has a wide range of techniques that can be used in projects and with the endless possibilities it is my absolute favorite. Just let your creativity blossom and most importantly have fun with it!  You really can create anything imaginable with pretty paper, glue and sparkly embellishments!  Spread sunshine and smiles by creating something beautiful!!

Tips:  I love using pattern paper to decorate the acrylic sign/frames because you can utilize both sides of the frame and change your décor up just by switching which side is displayed.  I also like to ‘antique’ my frame by adding ink to the edges of the frame.

Tip:  I try and balance my colors/patterns on a page by placing them in a triangular effect.  This helps move the eye across the page in a more pleasing manner.  It also helps create balance to any project.

Tips:  I love to use up all my pattern paper pieces and left over supplies to create cute and quick little cards!  These 3x3 cards make great tags to dress up any gift bag or gift.

*One tip that I would like to share when making cards, is that I ink all my edges of pattern paper.  This makes a HUGE difference in the designs and really makes the cards pop, plus it adds a lot of dimension!

Tip:  I love creating mini albums out of envelopes.  You can use any size envelope that you see fit.  Seal them, cut the top off and adhere them to whatever binding you want.  Use as a pocket for journaling, tags, photos, memorabilia, the possibilities are endless.  Use the front and back side of envelop to add photos, journaling etc.

Hi! I am Ivy and I am a stay at home mom to two boys 4 & 2. 

We have a pet hedgehog named Hannalee.

I have been crafting since I was a little kid. I have a scrapbook binder I made using copy paper & embellished with Lisa Frank stickers from 3rd grade as proof lol.  I like to try all the crafts and am a self proclaimed Maker of all the things but my current favorite is making shirts & home decor crafts.  I am super thankful for my hubby who fully supports my crafting addiction.

I am OBSESSED with all things hedgehog.
My all time favorite color is all shades of PINK but currently its "Rainbow" is my jam.

Here's my projects that I've created to share with you! For my first project, I used Jillibean Soup's Mix the Media 12 x 14 Hanging Canvas.  I cut the words out on my Cricut using Glitter iron on HTV.  I made the rainbow by wrapping up a cotton cord using DMC threads.  I finished off the rainbow with Jillibean's felt flowers and epoxy stickers.

 

For my second project, I painted Jillibean Soup's Mix in the media 6x10 rustic white frame with pink acrylic paint and used the following supplies:

Guest Designer Laura Rumble

Good morning!  Please welcome this month's Guest Designer Laura Rumble – a 33 year old scrappy auntie from the UK. 

Laura has been creating for most of her life and will have a go at any craft; paper is her favorite medium though.  Her style tends to be lots of white space with rainbow colours, fairly clean and simple and often with some mixed media thrown in. She has suffered from M.E. for 19 years and which leaves her exhausted and achy.  She is pretty immobile but sitting at her desk in  her big comfy chair playing quietly with pretty paper is manageable.  It is her therapy and the ability to create has saved her sanity over the last few years!

Guest Designer Katrina Hunt

Happy New Year!  Please help welcome Jillibean Soup Guest Designer Katrina Hunt. 

Katrina lives in Midwest USA!   She is currently owned by three Cardigan Welsh Corgis, who appear in her layouts from time to time (or A LOT of the time)! She has discovered as an adult that she loves to create and craft.   Katrina was never the artsy type while growing up unless you count cutting her doll’s hair.  She has been scrapbooking since February 2009, when she decided to make a mini album for a friend. Katrina discovered that she loved it!  Well, let’s just say after that she went nuts with the paper, scissors, and glue.  Katrina loves color, the more the better.  To define her style is hard, as she does what makes me happy. She likes to scrap everyday life and things, you never know what the subject of my project might be!  Katrina has ventured into hybrid scrapbooking and also learning how to watercolor, because we all have a ton of time right?!  Be sure to check out Katrina's blog.  Right now, take a look at the projects she is sharing with us today!
